WHY?
The purpose for learning more Spanish is two-fold.
My father's family is Spanish and, as time goes on, that culture becomes more at risk of being lost. I learned Spanish as a high school student and used it as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; yet, my proficiency never became more than a high intermediate. I wanted to better learn to embrace my roots by growing my ability to speak the language my family speaks.

I will also begin medical school next year. Undoubtedly I will offer medical services to individuals who speak Spanish as their primary language. I want to be the best provider I can and truly meet their needs. I wanted to learn at least a base in medical Spanish, including refining it in the Dominican Republic, so that I can better serve my patients.
